What this adaptation preserves
Valjean’s imprisonment and the bishop’s mercy, Fantine’s fall, Cosette’s rescue, Javert’s pursuit, the convent, Marius and Éponine, the June 1832 barricade, the sewer escape, Javert’s final decision, the marriage and Valjean’s reconciliation.
Historical France shares the panels with understated modern objects. Cosette’s imagined fairy-tale framing is her perspective; the story distinguishes it from events. This condensed adaptation does not reproduce the full novel or its extended historical digressions.
